Former Blackburn Rovers striker Anthony Stokes has put his 13-month Ewood Park nightmare behind him by scoring seven goals in just eight outings for new employers Hibernian.

The 29-year-old Dublin born hotshot spent last season with Rovers but off-field personal problems restricted the player to making just 14 appearances in all competitions for the club in which he scored four goals.

Rovers agreed to terminate Stokes’ contract in July to allow the player the opportunity to join another club however a question mark will forever hang over that decision with the striker now in red hot form north of the border.

Stokes is enjoying his third spell with Hibernian after netting 33 goals in 73 appearances in his two previous stays at Easter Road. The striker has bagged three goals in his last two outings for The Hibees including the winning goal in the club’s 3-2 Bettered Cup Quarter-Final win over Livingston in Leith on Tuesday evening.

Former club Blackburn Rovers have won four of their first seven matches in Sky Bet League One following their relegation last season and if the club and Stokes could have resolved the player’s long-running personal issues, the player may just have played a key role for the club this term.
