MATCH PREVIEW: Reading vs Hull City

Jaap Stam’s Reading take on Hull City on Saturday as both look to climb into the top half of the table with a victory. Both sides have had underwhelming starts to the season and will be looking to gather some momentum as the season gets into full swing.

Team News

Reading
  • Modou Barrow missed the 1-1 draw with Brentford and midweek’s defeat to Swansea in the Carabao Cup through a minor knee ligament injury. He could be back by midweek but will miss this encounter.
  • Jordan Obita completed 60 minutes against Swansea and is likely fit to start. He will likely start over Tyler Blackett, who has looked shaky in recent weeks.
  • Yann Kermorgant is still a month away from a return, while Joseph Mendes and Tennai Watson also remain sidelined.
Hull
  • David Meyler put in an excellent performance off the bench against Sunderland on Saturday and is likely to be rewarded with a start over Markus Henriksen.
  • Moses Odubajo, Will Keane and Evandro are all absentees for the visitors, as is Abel Hernandez, who is out for the majority of the season with a ruptured Achilles.

Prediction

  • Only Bolton Wanderers (4) and Birmingham City (4) have scored fewer goals than Reading this season (6). Jon Dadi Bodvarsson misfired against both Bristol City and Brentford and with teenager Sam Smith the only other senior striker, Reading’s attacking woes don’t look like getting any better.
  • The visitors have an identical points tally and goal difference to the Royals following an underwhelming start to life back in the Championship and head into this clash without an away point this season.
  • Jaap Stam will be expecting his side to bounce back from a three-game winless run and with a convincing home record behind them, Reading will be looking for all three points.
