Former Exeter City youngster makes Chelsea debut in cup rout

Former Exeter City academy graduate Ethan Ampadu made his first team debut for Chelsea in The Blues’ 5-1 victory over Sky Bet Championship club Nottingham Forest in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge.

The 17-year-old Exeter born defensive midfielder made 13 first team appearances in all competitions for The Grecians after making the step up from the club’s academy system last year.

After impressing in the Exeter City first team in a relatively short period of time, Ampadu joined English Premier League champions Chelsea in the summer in a deal which was said to be worth a significant sum of money to the Sky Bet League Two club.

Ampadu has rapidly made an impact for Chelsea’s development squad while he featured for the club’s Under-23s in their recent Checkatrade Trophy fixture against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

With Blues manager Antonio Conte believed to be delighted with the player’s development, Ampadu was handed his first team debut for Chelsea when he replaced Spaniard Cesc Fabregas in the 56th minute of the club’s Carabao Cup Third Round clash with Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea went on to beat The Reds 5-1 thanks to goals from Kenedy, Michy Batshuayi (hat-trick) and Charly Musonda. Forest grabbed a consolation goal in second half injury time from Tendayi Darikwa.
