Wales international set for talks with Derby County

Wales international midfielder Joe Ledley is set for talks with Derby County over a potential move to the Ipro Stadium, according to the BBC.

Ledley, 30, is a free agent after being released by Premier League side Crystal Palace at the end of last season. He has apparently had offers from clubs in Turkey, China and Spain but has been holding out for a move to an English club.

Ledley was a key player for the Wales side who got to the semi-finals at Euro 2016 in France. He has made 74 caps for Wales. He started his career with his home-town club, Cardiff City. He went onto play over 200 games for the Bluebirds, scoring 27 goals over 6 years. He then joined Scottish giants Celtic in 2010. He played over 100 games for Celtic, scoring 20 goals. He left Scotland in 2014 to join Crystal Palace where he has been since he left in the summer. He played 83 times for Palace in the Premier League.

The midfielder has been linked with various Championship clubs over the summer, including Hull City and a return to Cardiff City. However, it now looks like his most probable destination will be Derby County. The Rams boss Gary Rowett has been looking for a central midfielder after a move for Maikal Kieftenbeld from Birmingham City on deadline day was left uncompleted.

There is no doubt that Ledley would be a useful acquisition for Derby. They will be hoping that he can be kept fit and will help them push for promotion to the Premier League this season.
