The first set of League Cup Third Round took place on Tuesday night and there were once again some cup upsets, we take a look at some of the best results-
1. Burnley 2 Leeds United 2 (Leeds win 5-3 on penalties)- Championship side Leeds United knocked out Premier League side Burnley at Turf Moor. Leeds took the lead through Hadi Sacko on 80 minutes and looked to have snatched it. However, Chris Wood equalised from the spot on 89 minutes only for Leeds to get a penalty of their own in injury time, which Pablo Hernandez slotted away. Robbie Brady then scored a sublime last gasp free-kick taking the tie to extra-time and then penalties, in which Leeds came out on top.
2. Bristol City 2 Stoke City- Championship side Bristol City are into the Fourth Round after beating Premier League side Stoke City. Goals from Famara Diedhou and Matty Taylor, both in the second half, gave the Robins a convincing win over the Premier League side.
3. Aston Villa 0 Middlesbrough 2- A tricky trip to Villa Park was on the cards for Middlesbrough with this one but two second-half goals from Patrick Bamford have sent Garry Monk’s men into the Fourth Round. This result is still a good one for Boro, as any win away from home is. They have also increased the pressure on Villa boss Steve Bruce.
4. Brentford 1 Norwich City 3- Daniel Farke’s men had a relatively stress free night at Brentford. Two goals from Mario Vrancic and one from Josh Murphy stormed the Canaries into a 3-0 lead. Brentford got a late consolation back through Josh Clarke but this didn’t really take the shine off a great performance by Norwich.
