Leeds United edge past Burnley on penalties – Twitter Reacts

Leeds United have made it through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup as they won 5-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw against Premier League Burnley at Turf Moor.

The match kicked off with Burnley dominating the play. It didn’t take long for Burnley to get their first chance of the game which they were unable to capitalise on. Chances for Ashley Barnes, Kevin Long and Scott Arfield were all missed which ultimately cost the Premier League side a chance to progress into the next round of the Carabao Cup.

After a quiet second half from both sides the game suddenly sprung into life. In the 80th minute former Leeds United man Charlie Taylor was caught out of position as Hadi Sakho raced through and slotted the ball home. Eight minutes later Kevin Long won Burnley a penalty after Gaetano Berardi hauled the Irishman to the floor. Chris Wood coolly dispatched the penalty to make it all square with barely any time to go. In the fourth minute of stoppage time James Tarkowski dragged Kemar Roofe back in the box which got penalised by the referee. Hernandez scored the resulting penalty to all but send Leeds United through. But the drama didn’t end there. In the 96th minute Robbie Brady scored a wonderful free kick which sailed past the helpless Andy Lonergan to send it to extra time.

After a largely dull extra time it went to penalties. All was well for Burnley until James Tarkowski stepped up saw his poor spot kick easily saved by hero keeper Andy Lonergan. That then opened the door for Stuart Dallas to win the shootout for the Yorkshire club and send Leeds United into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and their fans home happy.
