The Liverpudlian has been associated with Morecambe for the last 15 years, the first nine as a player, during which he amassed almost 300 appearances for the Shrimps, and the last six as manager. Considering everything that has been going on behind the scenes at the club, with players not being paid, to various ownership fiascos, Bentley (below) has done a remarkable job during his lengthy spell at the Globe Arena, managing to stop Morecambe from dropping into Non-League football against all odds for the first time since 2007.

The indelible bond between manager and club is clear for all to see – Morecambe would be unequivocally lost without their big man at the helm. Still only 41 years old, Bentley has potentially got a long managerial career ahead of him – you would be a fool to underestimate the number of years that he will remain defying critics in Lancashire.
