After only 12 games in charge, Harry Redknapp’s tenure at Birmingham City has been brought to an abrupt close with his sacking earlier this evening after this afternoon’s 31 defeat to Preston.
Redknapp came to St Andrews with three games left of last season, winning two to help the Blues fight off relegation. However, a dismal run of form has seen Birmingham sink to 23rd in the Sky Bet Championship table – effectively sealing Redknapp’s fate.
The Blues said simply on their website in an official club statement: “Unfortunately due to the poor start to the campaign which sees the Club second from bottom of the Championship, we are left with no choice but to terminate the contract of the manager with immediate effect. We thank him for all his efforts and wish him good luck for the future.”
Assistant Manager Kevin Bond has also left the club, with the manager’s seat being filled, on a temporary basis at least, by Head Professional Development Coach Lee Carsley, who will step up into the hot set on an interim basis.
However, when it comes to longer term replacements the search is on and here are the current top five favoured for the job.
Here’s the first of the five said to be vying for the job of Redknapp’s replacement.
