Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce will be desperate to see his side record three points when they face Barnsley at Oakwell this evening in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 56-year-old four-time promotion winner is coming under some severe pressure from Villa fans after a poor start to the season and there is a chance that Bruce could become an early managerial casualty in the weeks ahead should results not improve.

Despite being many fans’ and pundit’s favourites for promotion prior to the start of the season, Villa find themselves in the under-whelming position of 18th in the Sky Bet Championship table after seven matches and the club have managed to collect just seven points and one win from those outings.

The club travel to South Yorkshire on the back of three consecutive league draws and fans are understandably becoming frustrated with both the squad and their manager, particularly after failing to beat a Middlesbrough side who played Tuesday evening’s fixture at Villa Park with 10-men for 86 minutes of the match.

With Dr Tony Xia having backed the club heavily in his first 12 months in charge at Villa Park, the club’s owner naturally wants success and manager Bruce cannot afford further poor performances from his side if he is to keep his job.
