NEWS: Birmingham rejected £10m bid for key player on deadline day

Birmingham City rejected a £10m bid for striker Che Adams on deadline, Harry Redknapp has revealed in a report by the Birmingham Mail.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match with Preston, Redknapp told the media that ‘we turned down £10m for Che on the transfer deadline.’ He went on to say that this is proof Birmingham are ‘no longer a selling club,’ however the former Tottenham boss didn’t reveal the identity of the club who submitted the bid. It was reported earlier in the window that Derby had a bid of £3m rejected, but the Rams never returned with a second offer.

Adams is set to miss the next 4-6 weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up in the 2-0 defeat at Leeds United on Tuesday and he will be a big miss for Birmingham’s new look squad.

The 21-year-old began his professional career at Yorkshire side Sheffield United. He made 55 appearances for the Blades, scoring 15 goals. His good performances for United in League One earnt him a £2m move to Birmingham City in the summer of 2016.

In his first season in the Championship, Adams scored 7 goals in 40 appearances, whilst notching up a further 6 assists. He is clearly very highly rated by boss Harry Redknapp, and he will be a key player this season once he recovers from injury. Just last week, Adams signed a new 5-year deal to keep him at the club, offering further proof that the club intend to keep him as part of their long term plans.
