Barnsley’s Brad Potts has told the club website of his delight of getting his first goal for the team in their 1-1 draw with Preston North End.
Potts signed for Barnsley this summer after leading Blackpool to promotion last season and there was plenty of pressure on his shoulders. the Tykes had lost a lot of key midfielders in recent times with Conor Hourihane heading to Aston Villa during the January transfer window while Josh Scowen signed for QPR this summer. With Potts being seen as a replacement for these players, he had a lot resting on his shoulders going into this season.
And he showed why Barnsley had faith in him to sign him by getting the all important equaliser in yesterday’s draw with Preston. The Lilywhites got the lead when Sean Maguire scored with a glancing header but almost instantly Potts was able to finish when Adam Hammill found him with a great cross into the box.
He was understandably thrilled to get his first goal for the club, saying: “I’m over the moon,”
“To open my account for Barnsley, but also to get something from a tough game. It could go a long way at the end of the season. If we can keep picking up points on the road, that’s only going to help us get where we want to be this year.”
“I’m delighted that it was such a ‘worldie’ finish!”
“But no, the Gaffer’s always telling us to make it into the box when Ads (Adam Hammill) is out wide crossing it, so I’ve just seen a gap and to be honest it was a great ball from Ads and yeah it’s just hit us and gone in, but it doesn’t matter how.”
