Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce will hand late fitness tests to two of the club’s first team players ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against struggling Brentford at Villa Park according to the Birmingham Mail.

Villa are looking to extend their unbeaten run to four matches after collecting four points from their last two fixtures in the league whilst advancing to the Third Round of the EFL Cup.

With Bruce’s men set to take on The Bees on home soil on Saturday, it has been reported that Villa duo Alan Hutton and Mile Jedinak are facing fitness battles ahead of the match and the pair will be assessed by the club’s medical staff before the starting XI is revealed.

Defender Hutton is battling an ankle injury while Australian midfielder Jedinak has been struggling with a long outstanding groin problem.

The Villa squad is already low on numbers with several other notable absentees. Giant defender Chris Samba has picked up a knee injury while youngster Jack Grealish and attacking pair Jonathan Kodjia and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy remain sidelined.

With Villa playing catch up following a patchy start to the new campaign, manager Bruce knows that the club cannot afford any more slip ups and he will be hoping that both Hutton and Jedinak will be available for selection.
