Birmingham City could sign former West Brom midfielder

Birmingham City could offer a deal to former West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, according to the Birmingham Mail.

New Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp is understood to still be in the market for more additions to his squad after deadline day and could make moves for several free agents.

Former Norwich City defender Sebastian Bassong has been training with Birmingham recently and played 60 minutes for the Under-23s recently.  Bassong, who played under Redknapp at Tottenham, is expected to be offered a deal.

Birmingham could also offer a contract to another former Norwich City player: Youssouf Mulumbu.  The midfielder, 28, was released by the Canaries at the end of last season and has since been without a club.

After spending the early years of his career with Paris Saint-Germain, Mulumbu made the move over to England in 2009 with West Brom.  The midfielder made 211 appearances over seven years with the club, scoring 15 goals.

In June 2015, Mulumbu signed for Norwich on a free transfer.  In his debut season for the club, the midfielder managed only seven Premier League appearances after suffering a broken metatarsal.

Last season, Mulumbu again had limited opportunities, making only 13 Championship appearances before being released.

Mulumbu is thought to be open to a transfer to Birmingham, sharing posts on social media about the prospect of linking up with Harry Redknapp.

After two frustrating seasons mostly spent on the sidelines, the midfielder may feel he has a point to prove and could do just that with Birmingham this season.  If Birmingham get the Mulumbu who was in his prime at West Brom, the free transfer could turn out to be one of the deals of the summer.
