Former Forest winger does not regret leaving The City Ground

Former Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke has admitted that he does not regret leaving the club to join ambitious German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig 12 months ago according to The Daily Record.

The 20-year-old Kirkcaldy born wideman was sold by Forest in the last few days of the 2016 summer transfer window in a deal reportedly worth £13 million.

The move angered many fans who questioned former Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi’s ambition by being so quick to sell one of the club’s most promising stars.

Burke went on to make 26 appearances for The Red Bulls, scoring his only goal in a 1-1 draw at 1. FC Koln but the player lost his place in the side and joined English Premier League club West Bromwich Albion in this summer’s transfer window in a £15 million deal.

Despite spending less than a full season in the German Bundesliga, Burke has insisted that leaving Forest to sign a five-year deal with RB Leipzig was the right thing to do.

“I didn’t chuck it over there” the winger told the Daily Record. “No chance!

“It was a very difficult team to get into. There was a different language as well, so having that bond with the coaches was very difficult as they don’t speak much English.

“I learnt so much, it’s a fantastic club and I don’t regret it one bit. I think I’ve got better from being there, and I’ve still got a lot to learn.”

Burke made his West Bromwich Albion debut in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City last weekend. The Baggies have collected seven points from their first three English Premier League matches and maintaining his place in the side at The Hawthorns is again going to be a real challenge with the club playing so well.
