Former Exeter City teenager making a huge impact at Chelsea

Former Exeter City academy graduate Ethan Ampadu is making a huge impact at new club Chelsea just two months on from joining The Blues according to the English Premier League champions’ official website.

The 16-year-old Exeter born midfielder has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August after starring for Chelsea at under-23 level.

Despite being eligible to play for The Blues’ under-18 side, Ampadu has impressed academy coaches at Chelsea enough to be fielded with the club’s more mature youngsters in the Development Squad. The player has featured in all three of his side’s Premier League 2 matches to date with Ampadu having played in every single minute of his trio of outings.

Ampadu has been a member of a Chelsea defence which have kept two clean sheets in three league matches and the youngster has now been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August.

The defender’s good performances at club level have also impressed Wales boss Chris Coleman who has called Ampadu up to the senior squad for the first time for their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Austria and Moldova later this month.

Ampadu made 13 senior appearances for former club Exeter City after breaking into the first team squad last season. The Grecians were entitled to a significant compensation fee from Chelsea for the player’s services after allowing the player to leave in July.
