Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie has taken to Twitter shortly after the 11pm transfer deadline to reveal some rather interesting tweets. The Sheffield Star reports that a move to Barnsley was in the pipeline, however judging on the 21-year-old’s comments then it looks as though that fell through.
Firstly, former Bradford City youngster McBurnie revealed a series of emoji’s of crying faces, clearly indicating something surrounding his proposed move was in something of a major doubt. Then shortly afterwards, he unveiled a GIF which seemingly revealed his thoughts at the time. This may possibly be deleted after the time of writing.
Barnsley had been chasing the summer over the entirety of the summer and made him one of their top targets. Clearly something has cropped up, meaning that no such deal has materialised. This will serve as huge frustration to McBurnie, who is down the pecking order at the Liberty Stadium and re-signing Wilfred Bony will only push him down even further. Moving to Barnsley would’ve been a great chance for more regular football to aid his development.
Tom Bradshaw, Ike Ugbo and Mamadou Thiam are the striker options at Oakwell, so the addition of McBurnie would’ve brought it to a nice round four, giving Paul Heckingbottom decent competition for places. There would’ve been every chance of McBurnie being first choice too. It certainly won’t be the last we’ve heard of this matter, and it is very much a guessing game at this stage until we hear something more concrete from either Swansea City or Barnsley.
