Owls complete striker and midfielder swap deal with Rams

Sky Bet Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County have agreed a swap deal for striker Sam Winnall and midfielder Jacob Butterfield according to The Rams’ official website.

Striker Winnall moves from Hillsborough to Pride Park on a season-long loan deal while Derby County midfielder Butterfield will move in the opposite direction on a similar arrangement.

Earlier on Thursday, The72 reported that the two clubs were plotting the loan swap deal and the moves have been finalised within minutes of the closure of the summer transfer window.

Owls striker Winnall joined the club from Barnsley in January but has made just 18 appearances for the South Yorkshire outfit and has netted just four goals. The player has appeared in three of the club’s fixtures so far this term but will now look to prove his worth with Derby County.

The other side of the deal sees Rams midfielder Butterfield become an Owl and the player will bring bags of experience with him to Hillsborough with the midfielder having made 294 senior career appearances, scoring 27 goals. Butterfield joined Derby County in a reported £5 million deal from Huddersfield Town two years ago and the player has been a regular for the club.

Both players will not be permitted to face their parent clubs in meetings between the two sides as part of the deal.
