Sheffield Wednesday prospect Sean Clare has joined Sky Bet League One club Gillingham on a loan deal until January according to The Gills’ official website.

The 20-year-old Hackney born midfielder is yet to made his first team debut for The Owls but is thought to be rated very highly by the South Yorkshire club.

It has been reported that Clare has agreed to join Gillingham in a bid to grab the opportunity of regular first team football and the player will be hoping to impress his parent club during his stay at Priestfield Stadium.

Clare joined Sheffield Wednesday after starting his career at the Nike Academy. The youngster has appeared for the club at Under-23 level but is yet to be given a chance by Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal in the first team.

Prior to his move to Gillingham, the Londoner has represented both Bury and Accrington Stanley. Clare made four substitute appearances for The Shakers during a loan spell at Gigg Lane in the 2015/2016 season while the midfielder added a further nine appearances to his tally with Accrington Stanley last term. Clare scored his first senior goal in Stanley’s 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers at the Wham Stadium in February.

The youngster will now hope to made the step up and become a first team regular at Sky Bet League One level with The Gills.
