Birmingham City have broken their club transfer record by completing the signing of Spanish midfield wizard from Sky Bet Championship rivals Brentford according to The Blues’ official website.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is a real talent and has been tracked by several clubs including English Premier League outfit West Ham United during the summer transfer window.

It had previously been reported that Brentford were unwilling to listen to transfer offers under £8 million for the player and it has now been revealed that Jota has joined Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee which is thought to be greater than the £6 million sum paid to Valencia for striker Nikola Zigic more than seven years ago.

Jota has spent the last three years with Brentford after signing for the club from Spanish outfit Celta Vigo for an undisclosed fee. The player was loaned out to Eibar for a period due to personal issues back in his homeland but returned to Brentford in January and went on to make a real impact for the club.

Overall, Jota’s time at Griffin Park has been a huge success. The midfielder leaves West London having made 78  appearances for The Bees in which he scored 23 goals. The player was a fans’ favourite and Brentford’s loss is certainly Birmingham City’s gain as the Spaniard looks to further his career in England.
