Gayle, Championship club come in with club record £18million Dwight Gayle bid

Championship club come in with club record £18million Dwight Gayle bid

Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle may still be moving to Fulham after all, as the Championship club have increased their bid to £18million, according to The Sun. The fee would break the transfer record for a player signed by the Cottagers, signalling Slavisa Jokanovic’s intent to bring the player to the club.

Of course, this still does not necessarily mean that Newcastle will accept. Rafa Benitez is still on the lookout for another striker and wouldn’t allow Gayle to move on unless a replacement can be identified. With very few hours remaining in the window, there is a race against the clock for these two clubs to get what they want.

Newcastle are currently determined if it is worthy to deem this offer acceptable, but as mentioned, much depends on what player(s) can be brought into St James’ Park.

The striker demonstrated his keenness earlier today when turning up for training at 9am, completing forgetting the squad wasn’t due in until 1pm some hours later!

Jokanovic is on the lookout for additional firepower to give them the best possible chance of finally guiding the club back into the top flight of English football after a lengthy absence. Rui Fonte and Aboubakar Kamara have both joined to boost offensive options, along with Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo. More new faces are still to enter the club, assuming Jokanovic gets his way, and he remains hopeful that Gayle will indeed be one of them. Time will tell on this front, and there is still some life in this deal it would appear.
