Derby midfielder now unlikely to be joining Championship rivals

Burton Mail Sports Writer Joshua Murray is of the understanding that Derby County midfielder Craig Bryson will not be moving to Burton Albion on deadline day. The Scot had been touted as a potential replacement for Jackson Irvine, who earlier today joined Sky Bet Championship rivals Hull City.

The Australian international leaves a notable hole at the Pirelli Stadium, one which Nigel Clough will struggle to fill, even if a replacement is signed. Bryson was mentioned as a likely signing for the Brewers prior to tonight’s 11pm deadline but it looks as though that won’t be the case.

It would appear he seems destined to remain at Derby County to fight for his place under Gary Rowett, unless a late development elsewhere materialises. There were plenty of reports suggesting there was some substance before the link to Burton, but the 30-year-old will not be making the transition.

The former Kilmarnock man is a long-serving player at Pride Park after making the move from Scotland back in June 2011. Since then, he has appeared over 200 times under many different managers for the Rams. He has already managed to find the back of the net this season for his side, and that came in their most recent fixture. However it only proved to be a consolation goal in the 3-1 away defeat at Sheffield United, highlights of which can be seen in the video below this article. It is goals like this why a club such as Burton would potentially be interested, and Derby boss Rowett may have a few more phone calls to enquire about his services before 11 o’clock.
