Wolves on the verge of signing Dutch striker

Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to completing a £10 million deal for PSV forward Jurgen Locadia, according to Sky Sports News.

Wolves are the big spenders in the Championship this season, having smashed their transfer record last month with the signing of Ruben Neves from Porto.

The club have appeared to fail in their attempts to sign Ashley Barnes and Dwight Gayle, so have turned their attention to PSV striker Jurgen Locadia. This interest follows the departures of Nouha Dicko and Joe Mason.

Dicko joined Hull City on a permanent deal, while Joe Mason has left on loan to Burton Albion.

Locadia, who is of Curacao descent, has been a regular for the Dutch outfit for the last few years, and was rewarded with call-ups to the senior Netherlands squad in November 2015 and March 2016, although lack of selection followed by injury has prevented the attacker from gaining a full international cap.

The forward, who is often found playing on the wing, would be Wolves’ 15th summer signing, with the likes of Ruben Neves, Barry Douglas, John Ruddy and Roderick Miranda already arriving at Molineux on permanent deals, and four players, including striker Leo Bonatini, joining Wolves on loan deals.

It is evident that this type of spending in England’s second tier can only mean one thing – Wolves’ owners Fosun International are expecting promotion to the Premier League, and Santo will be under pressure to deliver it in his first managerial job on these shores. The signing of Jurgen Locadia would only increase that pressure further.
