Redknapp signing many for Birmingham, but allows midfielder to move on

Birmingham City have continued their extremely busy and active transfer day, this time allowing one player to seek pastures new. Midfielder Robert Tesche has departed the club to sign on a season-long loan for VfL Bochum in 2. Bundesliga.

The 30-year-old has featured just once for the Blues, coming in the 5-1 home victory against Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup, a match in which Tesche found the back of the net. However, he has been allowed to move on and link up with Ismail Atalan’s side in the hope of more regular first team opportunities.

Tesche has found himself well down the pecking order at St Andrews this season. There is already Cheikh N’Doye, Maikel Kieftenbeld, Craig Gardner, David Davis and Stephen Gleeson who can occupy these roles. Jason Lowe, who joined on deadline day, is another who can fill up this position in the side as well. This further decreased the need to retain Tesche at the club.

The German, born in Wismar, did have a successful loan spell with the club under then-manager Gary Rowett in the 2014/15, towards the end of the campaign, which was eventually turned permanent over a year later. He entered the English game with Nottingham Forest back in 2014, where he spent two seasons. All of his football prior to this was played in his native Germany, most notably with Hamburg and Fortuna Dusseldorf. In total, he made 27 appearances for Birmingham City, scoring just once, and that came a few weeks ago. Highlights of that game can be seen in the video below.
