What could Ashley Barnes bring to Wolves?

Sky Bet Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in bringing Burnley striker Ashley Barnes to Molineux, according to a report from The Birmingham Mail.

The 27-year-old has featured three times for Burnley so far this season, but is yet to get off the mark, and with summer signings Jonathan Walters and Chris Wood arriving at Turf Moor, it appears the Englishman, who has played for Austria at under 20 level is way down manager Sean Dyche’s pecking order, meaning a move during deadline day is very possible.

There have been numerous clubs linked with the former Brighton man, but Championship side Wolves are clear favourites, with Sky Bet offering odds of 2/1 for Barnes to sign for Wolves by 3rd September, with Newcastle United second favourites with odds of 15/1.

Barnes has played for the likes of Plymouth Argyle, and Oxford United, but really made his name during his time with now Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Barnes netted 42 goals in 141 appearances for ‘The Seagulls’, after signing in 2010, after he impressed by scoring four in eight during a successful loan spell with the club, before signing for current club Burnley in January of 2014.

Since his arrival in Lancashire, he has scored 14 goals in 94 appearances, but has suffered injury problems during his time, and looks set to leave the club after a three-year stay, but what could Barnes bring to Wolves?

Although the former Torquay United loanee is on the slightly older side at 27, there is no doubt he still has what it takes to succeed in the Championship, and would cause Championship defences real problems with his physicality and aerial abilities.

Wolves have signed an abundance of new and exciting talent, but a player like Barnes who has experience within the English game could really blend well with the new signings, as Wolves try to push for a return to the Premier League.
