Sunderland linked with move for Newcastle United midfielder and Wolves target

According to the Shields Gazette, Sunderland have now been linked with a shock move for Newcaslte United midfielder and ex-Black Cat Jack Colback.

This follows news that Colback’s move to Wolves on a season-long loan deal has supposedly broken down.

The 27-year-old has made 115 appearances for Sunderland during his career and since making a switch to Newcaste United, he has made 85 appearances and scored five teams for the Magpies.

If a deal was to be done, the combative midfielder would be returning to Sunderland in the most dramatic of turnarounds after it seemed that Wolves had snatched the midfielder away from fellow Championship side Hull City’s grasp with Colback being one of their transfer targets.

With it being deadline day, Sunderland could turn Colback’s head by submitting a late offer and if they were to do so, it could create transfer anarchy with Wolves and Hull City both chasing a central-midfielder and them having to take their search elsewhere.

Colback has been left out of Rafael Benitez’s 25-man Premier League squad and his future appears to be very uncertain at St. James’ Park which means that a move away elsewhere; be it on loan or a permanent deal is a highly likely prospect.

Colback’s final destination has yet to be decided but with the midfielder spending the majority of his career with Sunderland, it would be the obvious choice for the central midfielder. An issue in any prospective transfer could be the fact that the midfielder left the club who he had a 15-year association with for their bitter North-East rivals and some fans may hold this against the midfielder.
