Celtic join race for Championship defender

Celtic have now joined the race to try and sign Bristol City defender Aden Flint according to the Bristol Post amid a wealth of interest from several Championship sides including Birmingham City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Norwich City and Fulham.

The Scottish giants are reportedly keen on bringing in a new central defender before the close of the transfer window today and with limited time until the window closes, it promises to be a nervy day for most Bristol City fans who will not want to lose their star defender.

The 28-year-old has made 170 appearances in the league for Bristol City and has an impressive 28 goals to his name for the Championship club but a move away from Ashton Gate could be sealed again today.

The defender has managed to gain a number of suitors with his goalscoring plaudits and impressive displays from centre-back that would make him a welcome addition to any Championship side.

As with any transfer though, the problem surrounding Flint’s future appears to be the price with the Daily Mail reporting that he would only be available for a price tag of around £5m which is likely to discourage a number of Championship sides from making a move for the defender.

With the promise of European football, a large transfer budget and the experience and guidance of Brendan Rodgers, if Celtic do come calling for Flint though, it would be hard to see him staying at Bristol City or moving elsewhere.

We will find out in the coming hours as to whether Flint will stay – or go but it promises to be an interesting day for the central defender.
