Sunderland interested in signing Leeds United and Wolves transfer target

According to the Chronicle Live, one of Sunderland’s targets this transfer deadline day is Jordan Rhodes who Black Cats boss Simon Grayson has managed during his time at Huddersfield Town.

Rhodes has enjoyed an incredibly prolific career and hit the peak of his career during Grayson’s time with Huddersfield Town when the striker scored 36 goals in the league during the 2011-12 campaign.

The talented striker has an incredible record of 175 goals in 358 league career appearances and scored over 20 goals a season in three successive seasons with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship between 2012 and 2015.

After spending the first part of the 2016/17 season with Middlesbrough in the Premier League but only managing to make six appearances without scoring a goal, Rhodes moved to Sheffield Wednesday on a loan-to-buy deal back in January but failed to hit the ground running at Hillsborough.

Rhodes only managed to score three goals in 18 appearances for the Championship Play-Off semi-finalists and it is thought that he could be set for a move away from Hillsborough with several teams reportedly being interested in securing the striker’s services.

Sunderland themselves are hoping to bring a striker to the Stadium of Light with them currently leading the line with Lewis Grabban and James Vaughan who both signed for the club during this transfer window.

The striker has been linked with several clubs during this transfer window including Leeds United and Wolves but joining up with former boss Grayson at Sunderland would seem the most obvious choice for the Scottish International striker.

Rhodes would bring an excellent pedigree and a proven goalscoring record with him to Teeside if he opted to link back up with his former boss Grayson but equally, he would likely cost a large amount and if a deal was to be struck on deadline day, the fee for the striker could be inflated.
