Sheffield United defender could be on his way out of the club

After a long summer of speculation around a move away from Bramall Lane, the transfer debacle surrounding John Brayford could yet be resolved today with a potential deal with Burton Albion still thought to be on the cards according to the Sheffield Star.

Supposedly, Burton Albion and Sheffield United have struggled to come to an agreement over this summer in a deal that would take the right-back to the Pirelli Stadium; where he spent most of last season with ex-Blades boss Nigel Clough.

Brayford began his career with Burton Albion and progressed through the clubs youth ranks before then making 77 appearances for the clubs senior side.

After a three season spell at Crewe, Brayford moved to Derby County to join up with Rams boss Nigel Clough who had managed the defender at Burton Albion back when the defender was starting his football career.

Brayford went on to make 109 appearances for Derby County and managed to attract Premier League interest from Cardiff City, earning a £1.5 million move to the Bluebirds.

Brayford spent the majority of his first season with Cardiff City as an unused substitute and subsequently went on loan to Sheffield United in order to pick up some game-time; once again joining back up with Clough who was the Blades boss.

After Brayford became Cardiff’s first choice right-back once they were relegated to the Championship after a brief stay in the Premier League, he moved to Sheffield United on a permanent deal worth £1.5 million; but has only made 44 appearances for the Blades with him spending most of last season on loan at Burton Albion with Clough.

If no deal is done between Burton and Sheffield United, Brayford has supposedly been told by Blades boss Chris Wilder that he will not be frozen out at Bramall Lane; but it’s likely that Burton could come back with an ambition to sign the defender on a permanent deal.
