Wolves reportedly set to miss out on Premier League midfielder

Wolves have failed to reach an agreement to bring Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback to the club, according to journalist Tim Nash.

Nash tweeted the following:

“I’ve been told Wolves have missed out on Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback as they couldn’t reach an agreement. Not sure where he’s going.”

Reports today suggested that Wolverhampton Wanderers had hijacked Hull City’s pursuit of the midfielder, who has fallen down the pecking order at St. James’ Park. It is unknown whether Hull will go back in for him or not, but it appears Wolves’ interest has cooled.

The deal would have been a loan as Colback is in search for game time. He helped guide Newcastle back into the Premier League after signing from fierce rivals Sunderland.

The Daily Mail reported earlier that Colback was in talks at Molineux to sign for the club.

Colback came through the youth academy at Sunderland, before making a controversial move to their biggest rivals, Newcastle, in June 2014. He has since made nearly a century of appearances for the Magpies, but is yet to feature in a Newcastle squad this season.

Wolves may look to other targets as they hope to bolster their chances of achieving promotion.

Toon signed Jack Colback for a sum in excess of £4 million in 2014. His current contract runs to the summer of 2019, so a permanent deal anywhere is unlikely.

Transfermarkt have recorded that the possibility of Colback signing for Hull City is 45%.

The 27-year-old is yet to feature for Newcastle United so far this campaign.
