Nottingham Forest still not giving up in pursuit of talented midfielder

Nottingham Forest are still hopeful of signing Hibernian midfielder John McGinn before the end of the transfer window, according to the Nottingham Post.

The Reds have recently had their second bid rejected but are looking to go back in with another bid as they refuse to give up on the midfielder.

Reports are suggesting that Forest are prepared to venture into the seven-figure sum area in an effort to get a deal over the line.

However, Hibs are remaining reluctant to sell; they regard the 22-year-old as a key member of the first-team setup. Manager Neil Lennon claimed that McGinn was worth £5 million, yet Forest are still confident of getting a deal sorted at a much cheaper price.

If McGinn signed in at the City Ground, he would complete a hat-trick of Scottish league signings at Forest. He would be following ex team-mate Jason Cummings and ex Rangers winger Barrie McKay south of the border. Mark Warburton had also attempted to sign Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who has played in the Championship for Bristol City. Foderingham played under Warburton at Rangers, as did Barrie McKay.

So far this window, Nottingham Forest have spent close to £1.5 million on Scottish league players as they look to improve on a disappointing 2016/17 campaign.

McGinn is currently on international duty and could be waiting eagerly for a move to the Sky Bet Championship. His international football is extremely unlikely to have any interference with the transfer.

The 22-year-old’s contract with Hibernian runs up until the end of May in 2019.
