Goldson, Premier League defender poised to join Ipswich Town

Premier League defender poised to join Ipswich Town

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Connor Goldson is set to sign for Championship side Ipswich Town on loan, according to HITC Sport.

Goldson is back playing after missing most of the second half of last season due to heart surgery.

The 24-year-old signed for the Seagulls from Shrewsbury Town in 2015 – there are still 3 years left on his contract. He is quite far down the pecking order for Chris Hughton; he is their fourth-choice centre back behind Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk and Uwe Hunemeier.

Despite him being highly-rated at the AMEX, most Brighton fans would agree that a loan move would be extremely beneficial.

Ipswich are not the only club to have expressed an interest – it has been reported that a number of Championship teams had expressed an interest. However, Ipswich have moved the fastest and are therefore very likely to be welcoming Goldson to Portman Road before tomorrow night.

The Tractor Boys have had an impressive start to this Championship campaign, with their new-look front line shining so far. Manager Mick McCarthy has consequently been relieved of any attacking problems, so a move for a defender is sensible.

Connor Goldson would be a very helpful, tidy addition at Ipswich due to his ability to play either centre-back or right-back.

His previous clubs include Cheltenham Town and Shrewsbury Town. He has featured for Brighton and Hove Albion once this season; playing a full 90 minutes as the Seagulls entertained League Two outfit Barnet. Goldson kept a clean sheet as Brighton finished as 1-0 victors.
