Nottingham Forest produce improved bid for Scottish international

The Edinburgh Evening News states that Nottingham Forest have returned with a second offer for Hibs midfielder John McGinn. The initial offer by the Sky Bet Championship club was deemed ‘laughable’ by the players’ current manager Neil Lennon. That bid was believed to be approximately £750,000.

Whilst it will be an improved offer by Forest, it remains to be seen if it would classify as an acceptable amount in the eyes of the Ladbrokes Premiership club. At the time, Lennon said the bid for McGinn that they received was well short of what they class as acceptable. He still has two years remaining on his existing deal at Easter Road.

The player is currently away with the Scottish national team having been called up by Gordon Strachan. They take on Lithuania on Friday night. Lennon says McGinn is a valuable asset and would want a large bid to even consider letting him go,

“For a player of John McGinn’s quality you’re talking in the millions.”

McGinn made the move from St Mirren in 2015 and has since gone on to play over 70 times in league and cup for Hibs. He has nine appearances under his belt this season already, scoring in the emphatic 6-1 victory over Arbroath in the Betfred Cup back in July.

With the player clearly a key man in the Hibernian ranks, it remains to be seen if Warburton will get his man. He recently snapped up Liam Bridcutt from divisional rivals Leeds United to further boost their midfield options. There is also the likes of Chris Cohen, Matty Cash, David Vaughan and Andreas Bouchalakis who can also occupy the central midfielder berth.
