Burton want return of Championship right-back

Burton Albion want to re-sign Sheffield United defender John Brayford, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The right-back spent last season on loan at Burton Albion in the Championship from the then League One side Sheffield United. He played a big part in Burton’s survival in the Championship last season.

Burton manager Nigel Clough is keen to add new faces to his side before the transfer deadline. The Brewers have lost one of their key players, midfielder and Australia international Jackson Irvine, to Hull City. However, they have added players such as Joe Mason from Wolves and Sean Scannell from Huddersfield Townc both on loan.

Brayford, 29, is their next target. He started his career at Burton, before moving to Crewe Alexandra in 2008. His impressive performances for the Railwaymen resulted in a move to Derby County. He played over 100 games for Derby before spells at Cardiff City and Sheffield United. He spent last season on loan at Burton in their first season in the Championship, playing 33 matches.

Burton Albion fans will be hoping they can get the deal over line for John Brayford, as he is a player who is trusted and proven at this level. They will also be hoping they can add some more bodies to their squad as they look to survive another season in the Championship. The Brewers are the bookies favourites for relegation back to League One this season. However, the potential signing of Brayford and positive recent results over Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday suggest they will give themselves a fighting chance this season.
