Winger to remain at Middlesbrough, despite wanting Ligue 1 move

The Teesside Gazette reports that Middlesbrough have informed tricky winger Adama Traore that he will not be allowed to leave before the transfer window closes. The former Aston Villa had set his heart on a move to ambitious Ligue 1 side Lille, but Garry Monk wants him as part of his squad at the Riverside Stadium.

The 21-year-old Spaniard has made three appearances for Boro this season, impressing on every occasion. Middlesbrough however have been quite to halt any progress of a possible move to Lille, now managed by Marcelo Bielsa, but insisting that he is needed for Boro’s push back into the Premier League at the first attempt.

Traore still has three years remaining on his existing deal but the hierarchy at the Sky Bet Championship club are adamant that he won’t be allowed to move at this stage.

It is believed that Lille tabled a bid in the region of 10million euros, which was rejected by Monk’s side. The French side were willing to improve upon this offer but it seems as though Middlesbrough are simply not interested in a sale of any kind. It remains to be seen if Traore will produce a written transfer request, as is seemingly the norm these days, to try and force through a move in the next 24 hours.

Boro signed the player from Villa for £7million a year ago and would interestingly left out of the matchday squad that faced Preston North End over the weekend. This further increases speculation of a possible move away, but the player has been told to get his head down and work hard for his current club.
