Outgoing Nottingham Forest midfielder slates Mark Warburton

Nottingham Forest midfielder Thomas Lam, who is soon set to sign for Eredivisie side FC Twente, has laid into manager Mark Warburton for not giving him a chance to impress at the City Ground (Voetbal International). The Finnish international was signed by Philippe Montanier, and was a regular in the team, but then grew out of favour pretty quickly.

A move to Twente is likely to be made official in the coming hours, or at least before the transfer deadline officially closes on Thursday night. Lam last appeared in the famous Nottingham Forest jersey in February in the 5-1 away defeat at Norwich City. He feels as though he should’ve had a chance to prove his worth under ex-Rangers boss Warburton.

Twente are managed by 45-year-old Rene Hake, who has been in charge since 2015, and look set to afford the utility man the minutes he needs to remain in the picture for the national team. However, before his move becomes official, he believes foreign players were not given a chance under Warburton,

“I would not get a real chance from manager Mark Warburton.

“He could not guarantee that I would appear in his plans.

“The Finnish coach also said I had to make enough minutes because he could not continue to select me.

“Finally, Nottingham agreed with this choice.

“In the first half of the year I played almost everything, and good too.

“But trained Philippe Montanier was fired. He was succeeded by the trainer of the second (Gary Brazil), under him I played a little less, but after that Warburton came.

“He actually chose for English players only, the foreigners fell outside the boat. I did not have a chance anymore. That feels unfair, frustrating.”
