Wolves, Birmingham & Reading target has transfer request rejected

Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill has had a transfer request rejected by the club, according to a statement on Preston’s club website.

The 25-year-old, reportedly a target of Preston’s fellow Championship sides Wolverhampton Wanderers, Birmingham City and Reading, asked to leave this morning, however his employers have stated that Hugill will not be going anywhere in this transfer window.

Here is the club’s statement in full:

“Preston North End can confirm that Jordan Hugill has today handed in a written transfer request.

“The club have rejected this request and will not be selling him in this transfer window.”

This is a firm stance from the Lilywhites, and will almost certainly end the interest in the Middlesbrough-born frontman’s services.

Hugill joined North End from Port Vale in 2014 and impressed last campaign, scoring 13 goals as Preston finished 11th in the Championship. This form attracted the interest of a host of Championship sides, although with his transfer request being turned down, it is likely the striker will be remaining at Deepdale for the foreseeable future.

Preston’s official club statement follows manager Alex Neil’s claim in the Lancashire Evening Post that no one else will be leaving his side this month:

“Our side is not going to get broken up. It’s not as if anybody’s got a gun to our head and we need to get rid of them. We want to go and try and achieve something this season so you need to keep your best players.

“If you sell your best players it becomes more difficult, it’s common sense.

“We want to keep our best players and we want to have a right go this season and see where it takes us. We’re not in the market to sell our best players.”
