Sunderland interested in Sheffield Wednesday star

According to the Sheffield Star Sunderland have inquired about the availability of Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes. However, no bid has yet been made by the Black Cats.

Current Sunderland boss Simon Grayson knows the player well from his time at Huddersfield. But Grayson was the manager who sold Rhodes to Blackburn Rovers in 2012 for £8 million.

Jordan Rhodes has only featured three times this season as manager Carlos Carvalhal has been experimenting with his forwards. Rhodes bagged a brace against Bolton in the Carabao Cup as The Owls lost 3-2 to crash out of the competition.

Since signing on February 1st this year, Rhodes has struggled to make an impact at Hillsborough. In his 25 outings for the club, he’s only managed five goals, and he’s currently finding himself behind Steven Fletcher and Gary Hooper in the pecking order.

Sunderland currently sit 19th in the Championship. The Black Cats have only won one of their five Championship games so far this season.

While Sheffield Wednesday occupy 16th spot in the Championship, with The Owls also only winning one Championship game so far this season.

The Oldham born striker started his career with Ipswich where he scored once in ten appearances. He signed for Huddersfield in 2009 and, he netted 23 times in his first season with The Terriers. Rhodes then scored 36 league goals as Huddersfield won promotion from League One.

He signed for Blackburn in 2012 where he continued to impress netting over 20 goals in three consecutive seasons with Rovers. His form attracted the attention of Middlesbrough, and he signed for Boro in 2015. He was part of the Middlesbrough side which won promotion to the top-flight. However, Rhodes didn’t manage a single goal in the top-flight, and Sheffield Wednesday signed him on loan with an option to buy. He scored three goals as The Owls reached the play-offs for the second season running.
