Hull City in talks with Burton Albion star

Hull City are in talks with Burton Albion midfielder Jackson Irvine over a move to the KCOM Stadium, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

Hull boss Leonid Slutsky has targeted the Burton Albion midfielder as a replacement for Sam Clucas, who left the club for Premier League side Swansea City last week. Irvine, 24, impressed for the Brewers last season and was pivotal in their survival in the Championship last season.

The Australia international scored 12 goals last season from midfield. It was these goals that have caused many clubs to be linked with a move for him. However, it seems that Hull are now in pole position to land the Burton star.

Hull boss Leonid Slutsky is looking to bolster his thin squad ahead of the transfer deadline. The Tigers have lost many key players this summer, such as Harry Maguire, Andrew Robertson and Sam Clucas. More key players may also leave before the transfer deadline. The former Russia and CSKA Moscow boss will be hoping former Celtic and Ross County midfielder Jackson Irvine will help him in his mission to get Hull back to the Premier League.

On the other hand, Burton fans will be disappointed to see one of their key players leave. The Brewers are one of the bookies favourites for relegation this season. Despite this, they have gained two positive results in their last two games, beating Birmingham and drawing to Sheffield Wednesday. They will be hoping the recent loan signings of Sean Scannell and Joe Mason, from Huddersfield and Wolves respectively, will replace the goals of Jackson Irvine this season.
