Reading and Wolves in ‘major money’ battle to sign Preston North End star

Reading and Wolves are involved in a big money battle to sign Preston North End’s Jordan Hugill according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

The Lilywhites shocked many people last season by being dark horses for the Sky Bet Championship play-offs. While they didn’t end up making it into the top six, they gained the respect of many of their opponents and it earned their head coach Simon Grayson the job at Sunderland. Hugill was a big part of that as he scored 13 goals for them last season and he’s got off to a great start this year, scoring three goals in August.

This has led to interest from elsewhere and it’s been known for a few weeks that both Reading and Wolves have been looking to sign Hugill. Preston have been doing all they can to make sure their striker stays at the club and this has forced the bids to be incredibly high, with this report saying that both teams are now willing to spend ‘major money’ to make sure he becomes their player.

This doesn’t mean that Preston are going to sell as they are at least hoping to hold onto Hugill until the next transfer window, but it does seem like if they do get a seriously high bid they would be willing to sell the striker who has become a star for them in recent years. It would be tough for the club as they would need to get a replacement in the few days left in the transfer window but the money could be invaluable if they want to challenge for the play-offs.
