Leeds United manager reacts to victory over Forest

Leeds United overcame Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the City Ground yesterday evening, in a clash that many would say belongs a division higher. Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen was understandably elated at his side’s victory, which takes his team up to third in the Championship.

The Danish-born former Spanish international took over at Elland Road this summer, and his impact has been instantaneous, helping Leeds to three wins and two draws in the league, as well as guiding them into the third-round of the Carabao Cup.

His good start continued yesterday against Mark Warburton’s Forest – this is how Christiansen reacted on LUTV:

On the performance:
“I’m not only very happy, but I am also proud of our performance. The players put in a big effort, their understanding was great and they knew how to stop a good opponent in Nottingham Forest. I congratulate the players, they will now have a couple of days off to enjoy, which they deserve and we will come back strong again in two weeks’ time.”

On the second goal:
“In the Championship, you can never be sure of the three points right until the end, so to get the second goal was what we needed at the end of the game.”

On the defence:
“We controlled the match, we limited Nottingham and didn’t give them the possibility to play, I was very happy we neutralised their attacking play. It is important to get a clean sheet, especially when you play against strong sides like Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Fulham. It is our fourth successive clean sheet and we want to continue in this way.”

On Kemar Roofe:
“Today he did very important work for the team, scoring the opening goal, and after he did well in attack and defence.”

On the international break:
“I believe the international break has come at a good time for us now, the players have put in a massive effort during these opening seven games and it will be good for them to recover from that. It is also good as it gives the players who are injured another couple of weeks to recover. We then have two games at home, where I hope we can also take three points at Elland Road in front of our fans.”

Leeds’ next match is a home encounter with Burton Albion, whilst Nottingham Forest play Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
