In news coming through from media site Ghana Soccernet, Birmingham City target Afriyie Acquah has not been selected for Ghana’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
Ghana Soccernet say that the player is “conspicuously missing” from two qualifiers against Congo whilst also going on to state that Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp wants to bring the central midfielder into the English Sky Bet Championship from Serie A side Torino.
Acquah, who joined Torino from German side TSG Hoffenheim in 2015 for a fee of around £2.8 million, is said by Ghana Soccernet to be wanted “at the Championship side before the summer transfer window closes”, meaning that Redknapp’s Birmingham City have a week to do their business and capture the 25-year-old.
Acquah, who has made one full appearance for Torino in this season’s Serie A competition, turned out 20 times last season for the Turin side – scoring two goals in Serie A. In total he has 55 games under his belt for Torino, part of a total of 144 appearances in Italy’s top-tier competition.
Birmingham City sit in 15th place in the Sky Bet Championship table on four points after four games, their last game being a 2-1 defeat to Burton Albion. Their next game, the last before the upcoming international break, is away at 18th-placed Reading.
The next game after the international break, on September 9, is against Norwich City and is a game, if Harry Redknapp has his way, could very well be a game involving Ghanaian Afriyie Acquah.
