Leeds United, Derby County and Reading target Premier League striker

Championship trio Leeds United, Derby County and Reading are all interested in adding Brighton striker Tomer Hemed to their squads before the end of the transfer window, according to The Sun.

Hemed, 30, found the net on 15 occasions in 35 appearances for Brighton in their promotion-winning 2016/17 campaign but the Seagulls are considering selling the Israel international, with just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Amex.

Reading have already had a £4m turned down for Hemed as they searched for someone to support Yann Kermorgant in attack. Manager Jaap Stam has since spoken about his transfer targets and confirmed that he is looking to recruit ‘a striker and a midfielder’ before the end of the transfer window but has doubts as to whether his wishes will be fulfilled.

Leeds, meanwhile, are still in search of a replacement for last season’s top goalscorer Chris Wood, who joined Burnley for £15m earlier this week, despite boss Thomas Christiansen’s comments about his confidence in Kemar Roofe and reports suggesting that they have agreed a fee to sign NEC teenager Jay-Roy Grot. The Whites have also had a £6m bid rejected for Middlesbrough frontman Rudy Gestede.

Gary Rowett is continuing his overhaul at Derby and Hemed could come in as a replacement for Darren Bent, who has been sidelined until Christmas after sustaining a hamstring injury in pre-season. Rams striker Chris Martin has also struggled for confidence at the start of the season, having failed to open his account for the campaign, and has been dropped in place of David Nugent.
