Leeds United: Thomas Christiansen interview – “I’m very satisfied”

Leeds United came away winners last night as they beat Newport County 5-1. But what did manager Thomas Christiansen make of it?

Newport were excellent in the first-half, having chance after chance come their way. They finally took the lead courtesy of Joss Labadie’s 20-yard effort which Rob Green should have saved. It wasn’t until the stroke of half time that Leeds got an equaliser after striker Kemar Roofe poked in from five yards out following a scramble in the box.

Kemar Roofe scored just after the restart and just past the hour mark to complete his hat-trick.  Late goals from summer signing Samu Saiz and young talent Ronaldo Vieira made the score 5-1 which topped off a much improved second-half display. Newport County couldn’t have done much more. The Exiles were unlucky not be two or three up at half time but Leeds United’s class showed in the second half as Newport collapsed.

The Interview

Three points from the interview

During the interview, TC said, “I’m very satisfied with the result, we changed the result from 0-1 to 5-1.” He then added, “I’m very satisfied with the players who didn’t play in the league or don’t get so many minutes.”

When the interviewer praised Christiansen’s men for not panicking the Leeds boss replied with “You should never panic or the ideas will never come, we had to continue. The thing is we didn’t do the things right in the first half”

Finally, he was asked about Vurnon Anita’s injury and Thomas Christiansen said “He is okay” and he will also be able to feature at the weekend “if he is needed”
