Why Leeds United don’t need Chris Wood

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week you’ll know that Burnley signed Chris Wood from Leeds United. Although he was their main source of goals Chris Wood isn’t vital to Leeds’ season, here’s why…

One of the reasons is because Leeds United are so good at replacing players that they’ve sold. After they sold Luciano Bechhio to Norwich they replaced him with Ross McCormack who went onto score 58 goals and set up 31 goals for the club.

McCormack then got sold on to fellow Championship side Fulham for just over £10.5m. Although the recruitment of Bill Sharp and Micro Antenucci weren’t the greatest, they did eventually find Chris Wood who they signed from Leicester. He went on to score 44 goals along with nine assists before, of course, moving onto Burnley.

Every striker Leeds have sold they’ve managed to replace with a better one and there’s no reason why they can’t again. Andrea Radrizzani has already shown he’s willing to spend having made 12 signings in this transfer window alone. Given the club have just received around £15m for Wood and it’s been reported Leeds have bid for Rudy Gestede it’s very clear Leeds are trying to find that replacement this window.

The other reason is because of the signings they’ve already made. This seasons squad is a lot stronger than last seasons which can only be a good thing. Even though Wood has gone, new signing Samu Saiz has well and truly hit the ground running, having scored four goals and picked up one assist in four games.

With the additions of Alioski, Ekuban, and the fact Kalvin Phillips has seemed to have found his feet, even without the New Zealander they’re in a much stronger more well-rounded position than last season.

Leeds United fans should be very excited indeed about this season even if they don’t manage to get an obvious replacement for Chris Wood this summer.
