Leeds United linked with young Premier League striker

According to the Yorkshire Post, Leeds United have been linked with Swansea City’s Oliver McBurnie.

This follows a weekend where there has been intense speculation over the future of Whites striker Chris Wood with news coming earlier today, that the New Zealand international is to have a medical at Burnley which SkySports reported today.

McBurnie began his career at Leeds United’s West Yorkshire rivals, Bradford City and made 15 appearances during his time with the Bantams. After spending some time on loan at Chester where the young striker made 14 appearances and scored five goals, he went on to sign for Swansea City in 2015 for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

The Scottish U21 international has made five appearances for Swansea City in the Premier League and has a wealth of potential at only 21 years of age.

McBurnie stands at 6ft 2in and after spending time on loan at Newport County and Bristol Rovers, he has more experience of the Football League and the next step up for the striker would be to play regular football for a Championship side.

The striker is highly thought of and if he was to move to Elland Road, he could have a significant impact on the Whites fortunes with his height offering a similar dimension up front for Leeds that Chris Wood has been able to do so effectively during his time in West Yorkshire.

If Leeds United came calling, it could be a deal which would fit Swansea and Leeds United perfectly, especially after Kyle Bartley’s successful loan spell in West Yorkshire last season.
