Nail in the coffin: Chris Wood all but confirms his depatrue

The New Zeland international took to Twitter to explain why he wasn’t in Leeds squad for their game against Sunderland, and he all but confirmed his departure.

Last night the Mirror revealed that Burnley’s £15 million bid for Chris Wood had been accepted. They also said that the 25-year-old is due to have a medical with the club today. Some fans were saying that it might not be true, but Chris Wood released this statement on Twitter:

Wood confirmed that it has been his ambition to play at the highest level he can, and he said: ” I don’t feel it’s right for me to play today.”

Burnley have been pursuing the former Leicester City striker for some time now, and they have had their third bid accepted for the striker. The deal is reported to be £15 million with add-ons.

Wood joined Leeds in 2015 for a reported fee of £3 million. He scored thirteen goals in his first season with the Whites as Leeds finished 13th in the Championship. The 25-year-old was very prolific last season, and he finished as the league’s top goalscorer with 27 league goals.

Leeds face Sunderland later today, and they’re now going to have to find a way to deal with the loss of Chris Wood. Many Leeds fans have said that Wood is replaceable but will Thomas Christiansen find a suitable replacement? With less than a fortnight left of the window, Christiansen is going to need to find a replacement quick.
