Former Bristol City coach believes star defender is wanted by Premier League sides

Former Bristol City coach Leroy Rosenior has told the Bristol Post that he believes that several Premier League teams are watching Joe Bryan.

The 23-year-old defender was one of Bristol City’s best players last season, performing well even when the Robins were fighting against relegation from the Sky Bet Championship. It has been reported that several of City’s division rivals have been interested in signing Bryan as well, with Birmingham City and Leeds United said to have made approaches for him this summer. These approaches had been rejected though as the Robins are keen to keep one of their star men.

But Rosenior, who played for Bristol City in the early 90s and was a youth coach for them for several years before embarking on his own managerial career, has said that he thinks that several Premier League clubs are tracking Bryan, even going so far to say that he is better than recent Liverpool signing Andrew Robertson.

He said: “I can see why there are so many clubs after Joe Bryan. I was watching a lot of the Premier League games last weekend and how many good athletic left backs are there, and there will be Premier League clubs out there looking at Joe Bryan.”

“You saw [Andrew] Robertson go from Hull to Liverpool – I would say Joe Bryan is a better player.”

“I understand why Lee Johnson is getting annoyed. There is always a chance when you have got good players in your football team that they might go. So Lee will be desperate for the clocks to quicken up and to get to transfer deadline day, and move forward to keep his better players.”
