Leeds United to lose Wood – 6 potential replacement strikers

A hammer blow has fallen amongst Leeds United fans this evening, with news from the Mirror that the Whites are to lose star man Chris Wood.

Despite two rebuffed bids, online bookmakers Sky Bet had made Burnley odds-on favourites to capture the big Kiwi international – a feat that would require a revised third bid for last season’s Championship top-scorer.

In truth Chris Wood’s goals were invaluable to United last term, the big frontman netting 27 times in the league – winning the division’s top-scorer award from Tammy Abraham and Dwight Gayle. With three goals also scored in cup competitions, Wood became only the sixth player in the club’s history to score 30 goals in a season.

Leeds United aren’t overly replete with attacking options, having loaned striker Marcus Antonsson out to League One Blackburn for the season and with rumours that Souleymayne Doukara is apparently interesting Preston North End. The Whites have brought in Celeb Ekuban, but he is raw and untested at this level.

This means that a proper replacement for Wood is needed, a replacement that needs to arrive sooner rather than later.

In that spirit, here’s five centre forwards who might just fit the bill at Elland Road as Chris Wood’s replacement.

This list starts off with an older striker but one who has both experience and goals.
