Leeds, Leeds United striker tells club he wants to leave, won’t sign new contract

Leeds United striker tells club he wants to leave, won’t sign new contract

Leeds United striker Chris Wood has told the Championship side that he wants to leave this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Premier League side Burnley are very interested in signing Wood this summer and have already had a bid of £12 million turned down by Leeds.  It is understood that Leeds are looking for a fee of around £20 million for last season’s top scorer, but Burnley are unwilling to go above £15 million.

Leeds are desperate to keep hold of Wood this summer and have offered the forward a new three-year deal to stay at the club.  However, it now looks as though he will reject this contract offer and hold out for a move to the Premier League.

Wood has reportedly decided that he wants to sign for Burnley this summer, and is waiting for the club to make a second bid for him.  However, he is worried that the move will fail to go through if Leeds do not lower their current asking price.

Since signing for Leeds in July 2015, Wood has made 86 appearances and scored 44 goals for the club in all competitions.  Last season, the striker bettered his first season’s total of 13 by scoring 30 goals as Leeds narrowly missed out on a play-off place.  This tally was enough for him to win the Championship Golden Boot.

It now looks as though Wood wants the chance to prove himself in the Premier League after doing so well in the Championship.  While Leeds are reluctant to sell their star striker, they may have to reconsider their position if reports about Wood wanting to leave the club are true.
