Crystal Palace keen on signing former Nottingham Forest winger

Crystal Palace are keen on signing former Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke this summer, according to The Mirror.

Palace manager Frank de Boer is still in the market for new recruits following his side’s 0-3 home defeat to newly-promoted Huddersfield Town last weekend.  One player linked with the club is Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Oliver Burke, who has reportedly been told he is surplus to requirements at the German side.

Burke, 20, began his career with Nottingham Forest, making his senior debut for the club in 2014.  The winger had a breakthrough 2015-16 season for Forest, making 21 appearances in all competitions.  He also scored two goals and registered one assist.

The following season, Burke scored four goals in five Championship games and began to attract interest from several of Europe’s top clubs.  However, Nottingham Forest made it clear that the winger would not be sold.

Despite this statement, Burke joined Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig for £13 million in August 2016.  The move set a new record for the highest transfer fee involving a Scottish player.

The winger started brightly in Germany, getting an assist on his debut and scoring his first goal for his new club in his first start.  However, in 25 games in all competitions last season, Burke started only five times as Leipzig went on to finish second in the Bundesliga.

With the new season about to kick-off, it does not look as though Burke will be getting much more first-team football this season.  It is not known how much the winger will cost, but Leipzig may demand a big fee after paying £13 million only a year ago.
